# Client.open_geotiff

Open a GeoTIFF through its resolved object store without reading pixel data.

## Parameters

**asset**

type: Asset

The GeoTIFF asset to resolve and open.
**prefetch**

type: int

The initial metadata range size in bytes. Defaults to `32768`.
**multiplier**

type: float

The growth factor for later metadata range requests. Defaults to `2.0`.

## Returns

An async-geotiff `GeoTIFF` backed by the resolved object store.

<h2 id="request-example">Usage example</h2>

Open the first scene's red-band GeoTIFF and inspect its dimensions and CRS without reading pixels. Run this example in a notebook or another async context.

from tilebox.datasets import Client, iter_datapoints
from tilebox.datasets.assets import AssetCollection
from tilebox.storage.aio import Client as StorageClient

collection = Client().dataset("open_data.aws_earth.sentinel2").collection("L2A")
data = collection.query(
    temporal_extent=("2026-07-20", "2026-07-28"),
    spatial_extent=box(16.25, 48.15, 16.35, 48.22),
)
datapoint = next(iter_datapoints(data))
assets = AssetCollection.from_datapoint(datapoint)

storage = StorageClient()
geotiff = await storage.open_geotiff(assets["red"])
print(geotiff.width, geotiff.height, geotiff.crs)
```

The query must return at least one datapoint. To read a geographic region, use [`window_from_bounds`](/docs/api-reference/python/tilebox.storage.aio/window_from_bounds).
